Description:

Messenger of the gods, Mercury symbolizes commerce, travel, thievery, wit and wealth. MERCURY cleverly stole its essence from mistress lover VENUS. Second runnings of the voluptuous quadrupel created this small yet fascinating beer. Indian coriander acknowledges the traveler; a distinct Belgian yeast contributes wit & charm.

Appearance - 4.5

Pours a very dark ruby red. It has a good amount of fluffy tan head with great retention and some nice lacing sticking to the sides of the glass.

Aroma - 4.5

The coriander hits the nose first, with it's tart lemon-like smell, followed by some sweet malts and ending with a faint hint of Belgian yeast.

Mouthfeel - 3.5

A medium bodied beer that has a slightly creamy feeling with a good amount of carbonation. It feels a little bit too thin, though.

Taste - 4.0

The coriander makes it's presence known throughout, but is not overpowering. Sweet malts(not sure how to describe these) and spices make up the middle. It finishes dry with the Belgian yeast flavor lingering.

Overall - 4.0

I was fortunate enough to pick this up on a trade since they currently only distribute in AK and OR. For my first Midnight Sun beer I have to say that I like it. I haven't tried many Belgian styles, but this unique "Belgian-style small beer" tastes just fine to me. Not sure why it's called a small beer with a fairly high abv of 6.5, but nevertheless it's a great brew. I am looking forward to trying more brews from Midnight Sun.
